I found a pattern online, cut in the dark brown corduroy and prayed it was the right size as I had no fabric left and an hours trip to get some more. I’ve never made a pair of trousers before after putting it off for a few days I finally got round (courage) to start them. Whilst waiting for my order I got on with my costume. There was no skill to this as it was all just a guess but happened to turn out perfect.įor the hood I cut a large semi-circular shape and sewn to the top of the capeīefore making the rest of the costume I went online to order a leaf pin, that Frodo wears to hold his cape together and the must have gold engraved ring with silver chain. All this took was a ruler, pins, scissors and tape measure. I ended up cutting a 4.5ft cape and adding side panels. I got a rough measurement of the height of the guy I was making this for, just so happened to be the same height as me so that helped with estimating how long it would drape. I pretty much free styled this as I didn’t have a pattern. I pined it all together including seams and hem and spent around 6hours hand sewing it all together. I pined the buttons, cut a small square pocket and 2 large front pockets. I found already had the buttons, they’re really medieval looking so would be perfect for this waistcoat. Happy with the pattern, I cut pined and cut in the reddish brown corduroy This was then pined and modelled on my lovely boyfriend I used an existing waistcoat to draw my pattern and then cut I started with what I thought would be the easiest part, the waistcoat. I the went on to order the pin and of course the engraved ring on chain The pictures a bit dark but basically he wears dark corduroy 3/4 trouser with grey tie belt to keep his sword wedged safely and a lighter corduroy button up waistcoat (although he wears his un-buttoned) an off white oversized button up shirt and a grey 3/4 cape with hood and leaf pin to hold it together at the neck.Īfter an amazing shopping trip I found exactly everything I need and all in the sale! Apparently corduroy is an out of season fabric (it is summer) so I got it cheap. So basically I was to re-create the above picture. I did loads and loads and loads of research I’m a massive fan of the movies so I’ve been super busy the past 2 weeks making a replica Frodo costume So, my boyfriends friend asked if I would make a Frodo Baggins Hobbit costume for him to surprise a friend at his stag do.
